Show off your skills and solve real design problems
SpaceClaim challenges you to combine two or more existing models to make something new and exciting!
How many great ideas have you had that are based off existing designs?
Whether merging two ideas together like putting a camera in your phone, modifying a single design like combining a fork and spoon to get a spork, or combining a bicycle and a lawn mower to get a riding lawn mower, SpaceClaim can just as easily modify existing models, or merge different files types created in any other system, resulting in a brand new design. There is no faster tool to express your ideas or concepts in a way that can be shared, edited and manufactured.
Take part in this contest by using SpaceClaim Engineer combined with GrabCAD’s incredible collection of models or models from other sources to improve someone else’s design. Use SpaceClaim’s direct editing tools to split and recombine the designs, modify existing geometry, and make your ideas come alive.
Participants who do not have SpaceClaim today will be able to get a 30 day evaluation of SpaceClaim so they can participate in this challenge – the trial version is available from the link below to the SpaceClaim site on which basic data must be submitted and then an email will be sent with details on downloading the 30-day trial of SpaceClaim: http://www.spaceclaim.com/en/UsingSpaceClaim/misc/SpaceClaimTrial-GrabCAD-Challenge.aspx
The design software is SpaceClaim Engineer
The competition is open to everyone.
One engineer can submit several entries, but no more than one will win a prize.
The contest sponsor has the right to promote the winning entries and use them for marketing purposes.
Only entries uploaded to GrabCAD library will participate in the competition.
Only models uploaded through this Challenge page will participate in the competition.
Tag your model with “SpaceClaimChallenge” to make it easier to find.
Competition winners will be announced on this Challenge site.
Winners will be announced within 1 month after the end of competition.
This Challenge starts on October 1, 2012 and ends October 31, 2012.
$6,000 in cash + 3 SpaceClaim full perpetual licences
$3,000 cash + SpaceClaim full perpetual license
$2,000 cash + SpaceClaim full perpetual license
$1,000 cash + SpaceClaim full perpetual license

how much is the size of setup file for downloading?
Farzin Raafat over 11 years ago
what is the exact duty for spaceclaim program here?should we design in this program,or we could use previous models(designed in other programs or in grabcad library) then just assemble the whole model in spaceclaim?(showing our idea in spaceclaim)
ALI ALDUBAISI over 11 years ago
the size about 1GB very light compared to other CAD software, I got it installed in few minutes, I have used SC before so I noticed few new stuff here and there. I just need to play with it for a while !

This should be a fun one, now I just have to find some time to learn SpaceClaim and come up with a good idea!

I taked a look at spaceclaim... it seems just amazing!
teigan over 11 years ago
so in addition to their design tools, spaceclaim is a library of license free 3D assets which we can purchase for our own use in perpetuity?
Bernard Buelow over 11 years ago
farzin - when you get the download email and click on the version you want to download, it tells you how large the file is and approximately how long it will download.
Bernard Buelow over 11 years ago
Farzin - for this challenge, you will use SpaceClaim to combine models o you pull down from GrabCAD or other resources (or your own past work) to create something new, but you are fee also to use SpaceClaim to create, edit, modify, and/or repair existing geometry as well.
Bernard Buelow over 11 years ago
teigan, no, SpaceClaim is a smart 3D tool (also called a 3D direct modeler), and extremely popular as it does not require a history- or feature-tree. SpaceClaim does not provide a library of models or geometry - you will use sites like GrabCAD or your own past work to start the new design for submission to this challenge.

hello!!!
i already have this idea and i am just curious,..about this challenge i want to know if are we going to design fully or just a concept a visualization of what we have in mind?..
Stephen Nyberg over 11 years ago
I think they want to see what we can do with the software, so I would go as far as you can with your idea. Can't hurt to give the judges more then what they wanted, right?
Simon Kwan over 11 years ago
I'd love to participate, but alas, no OS X compatible version of SpaceClaim :-( When will the CAD companies realize that many awesome product designers love working in OS X rather than Windows? I bet Sir Jony Ives isn't cranking out the latest Apple products on a Dell :-P
Tristan over 11 years ago
@ Simon Kwan so true, I have been waiting ages for Autodesk to release inventor on Mac. I was so happy when AutoCad for Mac came out :) I have windows partitioned on my mac but it isn't the same.

So a few days ago, i downloaded the program and played around with it a little. (it was cool). Today I was going to start on my project for this challenge and it asked me to type in my registration code and it would not accept it. after trying everything, i decided to try and uninstall and start from scratch getting a new registration code and re-downloading... It still did not work. Is anyone else having any troubles like this?
Michael Feliciano D. Ancajas over 11 years ago
@stephen nyberg i dont think so in your case cause once you have the software from spaceclaim all flows well for one month use only. just redo all the process and you may get the product fully functional.

This is a good challenge for me :)
I already have several SpaceClaim models in GrabCAD along with Motion Simulation using SC-Motion at http://grabcad.com/library/tag/sc-motion
Video tutorials on getting started with Assembly Modeling are listed at http://www.ar-cad.com/sc-motion/tutorials/index.html
Regards,
Rajeev
P.S: I am part of AR-CAD, developer of SC-Motion addin for SpaceClaim Engineer.
Laura Kriebel over 11 years ago
Stephen, are you still having issues downloading the software? Please let me know. Thanks.
Stephen Nyberg over 11 years ago
I was always able to download it, I was just not able to register it. I did get help from SpaceClaim. I guess the issue is that I am running Windows on a bootcamp partition on a mac. SpaceClaim had to send me a different program to install the license. It would work but each time I booted into the windows side of my computer it reset the SpaceClaim license, so it should be fixed now. I was able to get it working but I have not re-booted yet see if it will continue to work.
Marc Doggett over 11 years ago
I don't get any e-mail after registering..

What happens with the model after the contest? Who can participate, can people from other country participate?
Saulo Rodrigues de Quevedo over 11 years ago
Hello ..
My name is Saulo Quevedo, am inventor and design, I live in Brazil and would love to participate in this challenge. Will I need to modify and adapt the files I created in Inventor, SolidWorks and Solid Edge for this competition, but at the moment I do not have the power to SpaceClaim in Portuguese adapt my designs for this contest. I have some very interesting projects and I have a project in particular that I think may be feeling this event is as follows:
After a few years of research developed a self-generating system of electricity that can provide up to 2800% (at best) more power than the electricity it takes to run (approximately 25 Amperes). At worst I can have a minimum gain of electrical power of about 32 amps, but I think the chance of success is 99% so you can achieve the highest percentage of energy (2800%). Would you like to receive SpaceClaim 2012 + in Portuguese (very facilitate) the Mays soon as possible so that I can quickly send them the files of this fabulous project. Just over a suggestion: The Help files SpaceClaim could also be translated into the various languages that the program has.
Congratulations.
Saulo Quevedo.

Saulo Quevedo.

Saulo - please respond to my personal message as we'll be happy to get you SpaceClaim 2012+ as it does support Portuguese.
Bernard Buelow over 11 years ago
Marc, are you all set with the software?
Bernard Buelow over 11 years ago
Christian - anyone can enter the contest and when you submit a model, it becomes the property of GrabCAD - see the contest rules for details.
Simonr over 11 years ago
I filled in the form for the 30 day evaluation of the software - but didn't receive the link for download. However, today I've received a number of marketing emails from you - so you clearly received my form! I'd be interested to try it regardless of this challenge as it seems to offer some features additional to Solidworks.
Math Lindh over 11 years ago
It's not possible to make an model in Solidworks?
Bernard Buelow over 11 years ago
That's fine Math if you then take that SolidWorks model and combine it with something else or add to it using SpaceClaim for the final submission entry.

why do I see "You have not been granted access to this page" on the top of the page?
Hevi over 11 years ago
Same thing here ;]
daniel zientara over 11 years ago
Is this competition being judged by skill/ability with SpaceClaim, by the quality of your idea to combine two existing models, or both?
Hevi over 11 years ago
"Entries will be judged based on the quality of the new concept generated" & SpaceClaim software
daniel zientara over 11 years ago
Thanks, Hevi. Evidently reading instructions isn't a strength of mine for today. :)

No problem man :] But you have some right - there's soemthing in this rules that you are not 100% sure of it :/

I want to thank the organizers for the opportunity to try SpaceClaim, and show results.
I think it really is an amazing program.
I still can not say how well SpaceClaim. But I'm sure it will change our world.
Thank you to all who submitted their models, some of them are really interesting.
Ben Foster over 11 years ago
I uploaded 3 models in time and through the challenge page but they are still not in the entries list!!!
Stephen Nyberg over 11 years ago
I ran out of time to finish my entry but I do want to thank SpaceClaim for letting get a taste of this amazing software. I didn't have a lot of time to truly learn it but it was a lot fun the little bit of exploring I did do and I hope to get the opportunity to use it more in the future!
John Huizingh over 11 years ago
I uploaded the SCDOC file when I entered the competition and allthough it took a long time (file is 717 Mb) all looked fine (no error messages). But I now see there is no CAD data attached to my entry anymore. Is there a way of re-uploading??
Gabe Blanchet over 11 years ago
Hi everybody. Congratulations to everybody who submitted to the challenge. Please send me a private message if your submission is not appearing on the 'entries' page.
