A planetary gearbox, also known as an epicyclic gearbox, is a type of gearbox that uses multiple gears arranged on a central sun gear and surrounding planet gears that rotate on a planetary carrier. The planetary carrier is connected to the output shaft, and the sun gear is connected to the input shaft. The planetary gears are in constant mesh with both the sun gear and an outer ring gear, which is called an annulus or an outer gear.
